The Language Connects Foundation (LCF) and ACTFL are delighted to announce the selection of the 2024 awardees of the LCF Teacher Scholarship Program.
This program provides merit-based funding to graduating high school seniors committed to pursuing the language teaching profession in languages other than English. Scholars receive an annual award of $1,500 per academic year, renewable to a cumulative total of $6,000 per recipient and complimentary ACTFL membership during and for one year following their participation in the program.
The sixth class of LCF Teacher Scholars includes 20 awardees who hail from 15 home states and plan to teach eight languages other than English—including Ancient Greek, French, German, Hebrew, Korean, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish.
Demonstrative of LCF’s commitment to expanding existing support for
current and future educators who enter the profession from diverse
pathways, the Teacher Scholarship Program now actively invites
rising first-year candidates enrolled in four-year undergraduate programs as well as
two-year or community college programs.
Reflecting our largest and most diverse applicant pool to date, members entering this cohort have garnered important life experiences as global citizens and educators by participating in language honor societies and clubs, peer tutoring and classroom assisting, immersive international travel, and volunteer efforts (including translation and poll working). Their goals include making a difference in their communities and the lives of their future students.
One Scholar explained:
I plan on dedicating my life to bridge the language gap in underserved populations.
As our country continues to face the challenge of a language educator shortage in nearly every state, LCF and ACTFL continue to prioritize efforts to recruit, retain, and support a diverse, well-trained, and passionate teacher workforce.
For those wishing to support future awardees of this scholarship program, more information is available at Language Connects Foundation.
