Languages in Addition to English
Meet the Scholars
The sixth class of LCF Teacher Scholars hail from 15 home states and plan to teach eight languages other than English—including Ancient Greek, French, German, Hebrew, Korean, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish.
As our program grows to represent a broader array of pathways to becoming a teacher, we are delighted to share that we have expanded to include those enrolled in community colleges among program participants.
Reflecting our largest and most diverse applicant pool to date, members of this entering cohort have garnered important life experience as global citizens and educators by participating in language honor societies and clubs, peer tutoring and classroom assisting, immersive international travel, and volunteer efforts (including translation and poll working).
Congratulations to the Future LCF Teacher Scholars of the Class of 2028!
Through teaching, I aim to make an impact on my community by making it a more welcoming, supportive space for all, no matter the language.
Spanish allowed me to gain confidence in myself and change my worldview. I wish to inspire students to experience the world, make it a more understanding place, and change their lives as it did for me.
In my classroom I want to create a safe and comfortable learning environment which prioritizes learning from mistakes. […] I hope that my students will take me up on these ideals and make as many mistakes as they can.
I plan on dedicating my life to bridge the language gap in underserved populations.
My goal is to return to my hometown to teach Spanish and share my passion for the Spanish language as my high school Spanish teacher did.
With my career in education I hope to teach my students the importance of being able to communicate in our world and accept the beauty of all cultures.
Sincere thanks to all applicants who expressed interest during the 2024 application period, as well as the dynamic group of language educators who carefully reviewed applications to select our recipients.
We thank 2024 Selection Committee chair William Lee and members Rebecca Blouwolff, Sarah Campbell, Alicia Dallman Shoemaker, Sergio Guzman, Alisha Reaves, Asmaa Shehata, and Kim Winslow for their service and dedication to supporting future teachers.
